Autocad 2004 Customization Tutorial: Shapes With Straight Lines, Part 1
Autocad 2004 Customization Tutorial: Shapes With Straight Lines, Part 1
Shapes are defined within Shape files. Shape files are text files with SHP extension. If you are not familiar with compiling shape files and/or loading and inserting shapes read the following tutorial...

Oldies And Goodies
Oldies And Goodies
Every now and then I`m really glad Autodesk doesn`t take stuff out of AutoCAD. OK, maybe they`ve taken out one or two things (like the plain old Text command; replaced with Dtext), but I think the Boundary command is a nice little routine that can assist in calculating square footages. Then I got an email from somewhere praising the merits of the Dline command, especially the ability to cut door openings in parallel lines.

Autocad 3d Modeling: Thickness And Elevation
Autocad 3d Modeling: Thickness And Elevation
Thickness is an object property that gives the object a 3D effect. If you apply thickness to lines, circles, ellipses, arcs, polylines, solid fills, and traces they will acquire some height. Thus by changing the shade mode they will look like 3D surfaces and/or solids. Elevation is the default distance from XY plane along Z axis. Although you can override this value with direct coordinate entry or by using OSnaps it might be useful. The current tutorial shows you how to draw a simple 3D table with the help of elevation and thickness.

Drawing With Autocad R14 - Aalto`s Church
Drawing With Autocad R14 - Aalto`s Church
Aim The aim of this tutorial is to give you a taste of the processes necessary to produce simple 2D line drawings. By the end of this tutorial you will be able to produce (and plot on a laser printer) any 2D drawing of modest complexity made up of graphics entities such as lines, arcs, etc.

Lesson 05 - Polylines
Lesson 05 - Polylines
A whole tutorial dedicated to the mighty polyline - probably the most useful command in AutoCAD. Polylines draw lines similar to the line command we used in lesson 2, but are a lot more powerful. Let`s start by drawing the same plot of land we drew in lesson 2, but this type using polylines. The polyline command is situated on the `draw` toolbar.

Autocad 2004 Customization Tutorial: Shapes With Straight Lines, Part 2
In a previous tutorial I explained how you can create shape files for defining simple straight line shapes. Here you learn more on defining straight line shapes. If you are not familiar with shapes read the following tutorials first, please read the previous tutorial and also one on Using Shapes.

Reference & Obscured Variables
Reference & Obscured Variables
Receiving drawings from outside (or even from others within your own company) can be a wee bit aggravating sometimes. This month covers the Reference option in the Scale and Rotate commands that might give you a bit more leverage in your productivity. You`ll also find out about a buried feature called BASE, that enables you to assign a basepoint to a drawing. And if you`ve always wondered if you can set up AutoCAD to `see` the hidden lines in another format, AutoCAD 2002 has the answer.

Surface Modeling - I
Surface Modeling - I
This tutorial will guide you through the creation of a model from a digital image or sketch. The Model we will be creating is of a whimsical cat that also doubles as a bottle opener. We will use lines, curves and basic surfacing techniques to create our model. We will also utilize a capped surface and we`ll finish this task off with a Global Bend command.

Lesson 3-6: Line Thickness
Lesson 3-6: Line Thickness
In this lesson you`ll create the same chair by drawing lines and then giving them thickness. Think of thickness as the height of the line or how tall it is. This is different from the width of the line that you learned in the polyline lesson. This is a quick, simple way of achieving some degree of 3-D feel. Once again, remember that in some instances, simple may do the job. This is also a good technique for AutoCAD LT users, who don`t have the option to draw in true 3-D.
