Starburst effect - Photoshop tutorial

In this tutorial, we are going to create a unique lightning star burst effect

Step 1

First start off by creating a new canvas to work with. I#m going to use a 4x4 inch canvas for mine. Fill your background layer with a light blue

Step 2

Now we are going to apply some clouds. Filter > Render > Clouds:

Step 3

In this step we apply the pinch effect. Filter > Distort > Pinch with these settings:

Do this about 4 to 5 times. Now your image should look like this:

Step 4

Here we are going to add some lighting effects. Filter > Render > Lighting effects to make our star "glow" a little:

Your image should look now like this:

Step 5

In this step we are going to make the center of our star pop out by making a selection around the center using the elliptical marquee tool.

Now feather your selection ( Select > Feather or just Ctrl+Alt+D) with an amount of around 10 or so. Then go to Filter > Distort > Pinch and use these settings:

That's it ! Your starburst is completed and should look somewhat like this:
