Rigging a ball with Cartoon Funtionality
Rigging a ball with Cartoon Funtionality
In this four part video we discuss the process of making a squishy squashy bouncing ball rig. The topics cover adding deformers such as lattices and clusters with custom controls, attributes, and hierarchy. We go through using measuring tools to control deformation and break down the process of normalizing values to make our rigs scale properly. We also look at how to use the connection editor to make direct links between attributes from node to node. The techniques involved can be used for many rigging solutions beyond a simple bouncing ball.

Model, UV, and Texture a Complete Manga Character in Blender
Creating a 3d character that is equipped to be animated is one of the most challenging things you can do in CG, and to make matters worse, it has always been equally challenging to find any comprehensive tutorials on the entire workflow. Well not any more! In this 7 video long, intermediate to advanced level tutorial series, professional Blender artist, Karan Shah, will walk you through the complete creation process of a ready to animate video game character. From modeling, to UVs and texturing,

character setup (3): IK handle
In this tutorial I will explain the method of setting the IK handles. To control the joints from "child" of the joint, you will set IK(inverse kinematics) handles.

character setup (4): facial animation
In this tutorial, I will explain the method of animation of face of the character (facial animation). I will explain the setting of the constraints and the blend shape deformers.

character setup (2): adjusting skin weights
The deformation not intended might happen to the smooth binded skin. You should adjust the skin weights and control the deformation.

character setup (1): skeleton and skinning
character setup (1): skeleton and skinning
To animate character objects, you should setup the skeleton and make the objects skinned. In this tutorial, I am going to explain how to construct joints and how to bind the objects to the skeleton.

Riggin a Movable Pivot Control in Maya
Riggin a Movable Pivot Control in Maya
Animating a character flipping or spinning around can be a hurdle in 3d. A character will forward flip over a different center of gravity then if it were to spin around 180 degrees on its right heel. Typically the solution is to set up a hierarchy of groups with pivots at different locations in which the animator can choose to rotate individually as needed. The problem with this solution, besides the redundancy of having so many group nodes to dig through, is that it takes a heavy amount of preplanning to pull it off cleanly. The idea here is to make one control that will easily move around the character's center of gravity in order to rotate the character as a whole around that center. Let it be clear that this is a MOVABLE pivot not an ANIMATABLE pivot. What that means is that it is generally a one time deal per shot. Once the control starts rotating, translating it can cause some very funky results. If you have a character that is walking and then you use the movable pivot to make it turn left 90 degrees on its heel, trying afterwards to move the pivot over to the right heel will cause the character to translate oddly. However, if the character does a forward flip 360 degrees (essentially rotating the control back to its initial orientation), then the control can be moved and used again.
