The more reference files you have, the more difficult and time-consuming they'll be to modify. Making changes to multiple reference files one a reference file at a time can be tedious, counter-productive and expensive. If done by a human operator, there's no way to be sure that some reference attachments won't be overlooked or mishandled.

How do you convert a MicroStation V7 3D cell library to a V7 2D cell library and vice-versa? Easy! Just use MicroStation`s "Export" function.

Has this ever happened to you? You've been working on a design file for weeks. You've filled it with elements to your heart's content. Part of ensuring that a MicroStation shop remains productive is the efficient management and organization of cell libraries. At a recent Bentley Forum, I spoke with a newly-posted CAD manager who told me that he cringes at the thought of the present state of their cell libraries. He told me they had duplicate cells everywhere; that they had many libraries created by users in unknown, almost hidden directories.

In this issue of MicroStation Today, I will show you how to use Global File Changer to run a different product, SequenceEditor on any group of design files. Global File Changer is used, simply, to make bulk changes to any group of design files automatically. Global File Changer's main strengths lie in three major areas.

Due to the amount of opinion, perspective and judgement involved in simply defining what a duplicate element is, it is evident that a tool that will automatically locate duplicate elements and do something effective about them has to be equally flexible in its judgement about what constitutes a duplicate element.
